Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver

What’s in a name? This course is called Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver because you will advance your scuba skills and grow as a diver. Any certified Open (Junior) Water Scuba Diver over the age of 12 can enrol. You will have the chance to try out 5 different specialties though Adventure Dives while gaining confidence and experience under professional supervision. To become an Advanced Open Water Diver you must complete 5 Adventure Dives including Deep and Underwater Navigation. During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time. You will have the chance to choose the remaining 3.

There is a short academic portion which can be completed manually or online through PADI E-Learning.

In addition to the basic scuba equipment used during your Open Water Diver Course, you will also need a compass and a dive knife. You may need specialized gear depending on the Adventure Dives you choose.

Get credit! Each Adventure Dive may credit toward the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver Course. If you’ve already taken a specialty diver course, ask your instructor if you’ve earned credit for an Adventure Dive. If you only have the time or interest in complete 3 of the 5 adventure dives, you may qualify as an adventure diver.
